Canon David Harrison
Father David was appointed rector of the Church of St Mary Magdalene in 2010. Father David sees St Mary Magdalene’s as “a parish with a rich liturgical and musical life, a parish in which this liturgical life inspires, equips and feeds the community for its common life, and its Christ-formed witness to the world … a parish located in a community in which the diversity of God’s creation is manifested in human diversity of all kinds.”
Born and educated in Toronto, David has a Master of Arts in History from York University and a Master of Divinity from Trinity College at the University of Toronto. Fr David worked for almost ten years as a policy advisor with the Government of Ontario, holding positions in both the Ministry of Intergovernmental Affairs and the Ministry of Finance. He was ordained priest in 2000 and served as curate at St John’s Church, Port Hope, followed by nine years as the Incumbent at St Thomas’ in Brooklin, Ontario, where he was involved in the construction of a new church building.
He has served the Anglican Diocese of Toronto in the areas of liturgy and clergy formation. He is a member of the Diocesan Council and Executive Board and the Doctrine and Worship Committee. He serves the national church as a member of the Primate’s World Relief & Development Board of Directors, and as a member of the Anglican Journal Coordinating Committee.
David has written extensively on the liturgy and has been chair of Liturgy Canada, a national association of professional and parish liturgists. He is currently working on a Doctor of Ministry degree in Congregational Development at Bexley Seabury Seminary in Chicago.
An accomplished musician, he holds an A.R.C.C.O. diploma from the Royal Canadian College of Organists. Fr David and his family enjoy living in the parish neighbourhood.
