Book Study - Encampment

This Advent, you are invited to join in reading and discussing the Rev Canon Maggie Helwig’s new book,  Encampment :  Resistance, Grace, and an Unhoused Community. This short book tells the story of the encampment that grew up around our neighbouring parish of St. Stephen-in-the-Fields and how Mtr. Maggie and the church community advocated, bore witness, ministered to, and worshipped alongside a group of people who, finding nowhere else to go, sought refuge in their church yard.  Encampment is heartbreaking and challenging yet woven throughout with the hope of the gospel. It offers a thoroughly realistic picture of what it means for a community to witness to the light that is coming into the world even in the bleakest of circumstances, and it all took place mere blocks from SMM.
