An organ recital in progress: part 104
Dear SMM Community,
The next part of my online organ recital is here, and I hope that you enjoy it. I offer up these musical meditations as part of our parish efforts to find ways to keep you connected at this time. Recorded on my house organ, the instrument is a musical facsimile of the great 'Father' Willis organ at Salisbury Cathedral.
Today, I present Sigfrid Karg-Elert’s Nun danket alle Gott.
Sigfrid Karg-Elert (1877-1933) was born as Siegfried Theodor Karg at Oberndorf am Neckar in Germany. Though somewhat popular during his lifetime, his music drifted into obscurity after his death until a revival of interest in the 1970’s.
Karg-Elert’s Nun danket alle Gott comes from his collection of 66 chorale improvisations for organ, Op. 65. Composed between 1906 and 1908, the collection is dedicated to Alexandre Guilmant.
With best wishes,
Andrew Adair
