Holiday Camp a Hit

camp6.JPG

Seventeen enthusiastic day campers aged four to eleven arrived on a  day off from school and a chance to learn of the true meaning of Christmas.  The group leader asked campers and staff to introduce themselves by first name and name a something related to the name's first letter.  After this they proceeded to meet Isaiah and his prophecies and find out why we call the holiday Chrustmas.  We celebrated Simon's birthday with a special cake, spent time on crafts and games, had lunch and took off to see a holiday movie. The youngest visitor accompanying the camp slept through it all  Thanks especially to teen counselors, Sophie and Luke for helping out. And it was great to see some summer campers return for the program.

New Refugee Family Arriving Soon

MURP.jpg

Our new sponsorship begins on November 29 when a family of four arrives from Syria (via Malaysia) at Pearson Airport. We have found a comfortable temporary apartment for the family, and are aiming to find more permanent accommodations for January. We are doing very well for donations of furniture and household goods … thank you all. What we do have need of still are children’s car seats, ones suitable for a 5- and 8-year old. There might also be miscellaneous small things for their permanent home that we have not thought of. If you would like to help, one thing that would be very useful would be gift cards to Canadian Tire, Walmart, or any other such place, in any amount. You can also donate through our Canada Helps site.

Welcoming newest parishioner

Martha.jpg

18 day old Martha and her mother, Alice,  were welcomed by our pre-schoolers and junior school members with a small party that included a cake and written best wishes for the baby's future - as well as constructing some things that she might like to look at. There was a chance to talk about how babies grow and how we can watch and care for them as they develop.  We are delighted that she is joining her older sister as the newest member of the parish.

First Art Show a Success

Local artists mingled with parishioners and guests as we gathered for our first art show and silent auction.  The auction offered curios and carpets, tickets and trips and rare books, while the art varied from traditional watercolours and pastels to more avant garde and mystical.  Patrons also enjoyed a wine tasting featuring a variety of reds and whites and appetizers that tempted us to go back for more.  Thanks to all the volunteers who worked so hard and well to create the event.  It it hoped that it will become an annual one.

Halloween Welcome

Halloween Visitors, October 31 2017

Halloween Visitors, October 31 2017

"You're open again", parents and children told us as the came to our doors on Halloween night for the third year in a row.  We welcomed more than 150 children who enjoyed our offerings for their loot bags and 75 parents who appreciated warm cider on a cold night. It's one of the ways we interact with the neighborhood by showing a friendly face.  We also offer visitors the opportunity to add names of persons they wish to be remembered on All Souls Day.
