Jean Françaix (1912-1997) was born into a musical family. From an early age he studied with Nadia Boulanger; she considered him to be her best student. His Communion comes from one of his only organ works, the Messe de mariage.

This week we celebrate the Third Sunday of Easter, and the gospel is the story of the disciples on the road to Emmaus. It's a lovely story, but what does it mean? Mother Johanna takes us along the road with the two disciples and shows us how we walk that road to Emmaus every Sunday.

The Victorian composer and organist Sir John Stainer (1840-1901) was hugely popular during his lifetime. He was Organist of St. Paul’s Cathedral, and subsequently Heather Professor of Music at Oxford University. Stainer’s Praeludium pastorale super gamut descendens is just as the title describes: a pastoral melody accompanied by a descending scale in the pedals

After the excitement of Holy Week, we are taking a bit of a Sabbath rest, and keeping the Second Sunday of Easter with a quiet Said Mass.

The Gammal fäbodpsalm från Dalarna, by Swedish composer, organist, and professor Oskar Fredrik Lindberg (1887-1955), is a setting of a folk song which was traditionally sung by women tending cattle and sheep in the mountains during the summer pasture. The tune is well-known in the region where Lindberg was born.
