An organ recital in progress: part 60

Dear SMM Community,
 

The next part of my online organ recital is here, and I hope that you enjoy it. I offer up these musical meditations as part of our parish efforts to find ways to keep you connected at this time. Recorded on my house organ, the instrument is a musical facsimile of the great 'Father' Willis organ at Salisbury Cathedral.

Today, I present Camille Saint-Saëns's Allegro giocoso.


Proclaimed the greatest organist in the world by Liszt, Charles-Camille Saint-Saëns (1835-1921) crafted his compositions along classical lines. His Allegro giocoso is one of Seven improvisations written in his eighties.

Advent I Candle Lighting (Children & Youth)

We always get the kids to help us light the candles on the Advent wreath at the beginning of mass in Advent. This year, because of COVID-19, we can't do that. But we love seeing it, so we decided to find a new way to do it. We sent our Sunday School kids home with Advent wreath forms and candles, and asked them to show us how they celebrate Advent at home.

Today, I present Johann Sebastian Bach's Duetto IV.


One in a set of four duets from the Clavier-übung III, Johann Sebastian Bach’s (1685-1750) Duetto IV (BWV 805) was written in 1739. Bach pushed the limits of two-part writing with these four works.
