Presentation of the Lord (Candlemas) - 2 February 2021

We celebrate the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord (also known as Candlemas) with a livestreamed mass at 6.30 pm.

Why is it called Candlemas? Because we bless one of each kind of candle that we will use at SMM throughout the year!

An organ recital in progress: part 68

Dear SMM Community,

The next part of my online organ recital is here, and I hope that you enjoy it. I offer up these musical meditations as part of our parish efforts to find ways to keep you connected at this time. Recorded on my house organ, the instrument is a musical facsimile of the great 'Father' Willis organ at Salisbury Cathedral.

Today, I present Edwin Lemare's Loch Lomond.

Edwin Lemare (1865-1934), the most successful and highly paid organist of his generation, toured the world as a concert organist. Originally from England, he lived the latter part of his life in the United States of America.

With best wishes,
Andrew Adair
Director of Music

An organ recital in progress: part 67

Dear SMM Community,

The next part of my online organ recital is here, and I hope that you enjoy it. I offer up these musical meditations as part of our parish efforts to find ways to keep you connected at this time. Recorded on my house organ, the instrument is a musical facsimile of the great 'Father' Willis organ at Salisbury Cathedral.

Today, I present Charles Wood's St. Mary.

Irish by birth, Charles Wood(1866-1926) taught many pupils of note including Ralph Vaughan Williams and Herbert Howells. His St. Mary is based on the hymn tune of the same name from E. Prys’s 1621 collection Llyfr y Psalmau.

With best wishes,
Andrew Adair
Director of Music
