An organ recital in progress: part 79
Dear SMM Community,
The next part of my online organ recital is here, and I hope that you enjoy it. I offer up these musical meditations as part of our parish efforts to find ways to keep you connected at this time. Recorded on my house organ, the instrument is a musical facsimile of the great 'Father' Willis organ at Salisbury Cathedral.
Today, I present Edward Elgar's Imperial march.
Sir Edward Elgar’s (1857-1934) Imperial marchwas written to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1897. Its premiere was at a Crystal Palace concert on 19 April 1897. Originally an orchestral work, it was transcribed for the organ by Sir George Clement Martin (1844-1916).
With best wishes,
Andrew Adair
Director of Music
An organ recital in progress: part 78
Dear SMM Community,
The next part of my online organ recital is here, and I hope that you enjoy it. I offer up these musical meditations as part of our parish efforts to find ways to keep you connected at this time. Recorded on my house organ, today's instrument is a musical facsimile of the Kuhn organ at the Philharmonie in Essen.
Today, I present Henry Purcell's Trumpet tune.
Henry Purcell’s (1659-1695) Trumpet tune is a movement from his semi-opera King Arthur, also known as the British worthy. Written in 1691, the Trumpet tune was later transcribed for the organ by Christopher Dearnley (1930-2000), then organist of St. Paul’s Cathedral in London.
With best wishes,

An organ recital in progress: part 77
Dear SMM Community,
The next part of my online organ recital is here, and I hope that you enjoy it. I offer up these musical meditations as part of our parish efforts to find ways to keep you connected at this time. Recorded on my house organ, today's instrument is a musical facsimile of the Kuhn organ at the Philharmonie in Essen.
Today, I present Johann Sebastian Bach’s O Lamm Gottes, unschuldig.
Johann Sebastian Bach’s (1685-1750) setting of the chorale O Lamm Gottes, unschuldig BWV 618 comes from the Lenten section of the Orgelbüchlein. The Orgelbüchlein was composed from 1713-1716 during Bach’s time as court organist in Weimar. The early Lutheran hymn tune O Lamm Gottes, unschuldig is a vernacular version of the Agnus Dei, and used as hymn during Holy Week.
With best wishes,
Andrew Adair
